The greatest gift one can give is to consistently put the needs of others before one's own, a belief I was taught from a young age. The problem with this type of behaviour is that you can easily lose your internal resources. At the very least, this happened to me.

So, after turning 30, I began to adjust my life so that I would prioritise my mental, physical, and emotional well-being. And I am telling you, it changed my life for the better!

I will not pretend it is easy because it isn't. My quest for a new way of life led me to move to Spain eight months ago, and I have actually restarted multiple times this year. And even if I now live in a small mountain village surrounded by nature, changing bad habits and patterns does not happen overnight. It’s not enough to leave all behind.

So I was still dealing with anxiety, and my sleep routine was pretty bad. A few months ago—please do not laugh—I forgot my keys, tried to enter my house through the bathroom window, and fell so badly with my right leg that I now have an anterior cruciate ligament.

My skin looked pretty awful for a while, with pimples and other imperfections, and I felt more depleted of vitality. Not to mention that since August, I have been dealing with dermatitis on both arms caused by stress and anxiety, which was itching me a lot at night, making sleeping even more difficult. I assure you, it was an absolute nightmare; the itching, along with my other problems, drove me to desperation.

But what I’ve learnt until almost 37 years old is that I must listen to my body. So I read somewhere about the concept of interoception. It isn't something complicated or complex, but it is one of the most crucial processes to maintaining your mood and mental health. It is a sense or feeling that you get about your body and its inner workings. It helps you manage your body, listen to its signals, and take action. 

So, this is exactly what I did.
